Art Nouveau necklace, circa 1900–1910, crafted in 14k yellow gold and featuring a graduated arrangement of round and oval cabochon moonstones in delicate bezel settings. Two strands of fine gold chain connect the moonstones, with suspended oval drops forming a graduated fringe along the lower edge. The stones display a soft blue-white adularescence, the characteristic floating glow of light seen in moonstone. The draped festoon construction and emphasis on natural gemstones reflect the flowing, decorative forms favored in jewelry of the Art Nouveau period.

Historical Note

The Art Nouveau movement flourished across Europe at the turn of the 20th century, drawing inspiration from nature and emphasizing flowing lines, botanical motifs, and decorative craftsmanship. Moonstones were particularly favored for their soft, shifting light, which complemented the movement's preference for natural forms and unusual gemstones. This necklace's delicate gold chainwork and cascading moonstone drops reflect the fluidity and ornamentation characteristic of the period.
